Mooresville Historic Home- A Bright Future for This Restored 1840’s Homestead in Mt Mourne

A historic home for sale, 3.6 Acres, just Off RT 115,with over 4000 sf,

a bargain just north of Davidson…35 miles from Charlotte

mount Morne- estate circa 1850A stunning plantation home circa 1837, a truly historic home lovingly restored, 4 br with over 4000 sf, on a 3.6 acres estate, minutes from Lowes Corporate headquarters in lovely Mt Mourne NC, a township north of Davidson and just south of Mooresville. 5 minutes to I-77, 5 minutes to Davidson, and just 3 minutes to Langtree Rd… $2.0 M? No, quite a bit less.

Once the center of an 1800 acre plantation, this 3.6 acres is strategically located just 3 minutes from the final stop of the proposed light rail line in Mooresville. The restored manor home sits in the center, towards the front (Rt 115 off a loop road), with plastered 5′ masonry walls down the side, about halfway down the lot.

If it is a historic home, there has to be a story… Mount Morne’s builder was a Revolutionary War hero, Major Rufus Reid. Here is an account,

“Rufus Reid, whose home “Mount Mourne” was built in 1836 on the site of “Purgatory”, was a member of the North Carolina House of Commons in 1844 and 1846″ A portrait of Mr Reid is in the front parlour. More Early history of the Catawba Region.

It’s origin, and place in local history is also documented in a history of the Latta Families, one of the early Charlotte NC families, “Thereupon the Widow Davidson married her brother-in-law Major Rufus Reid and they built the imposing Mount Mourne mansion in 1837.” from Latta Family references, http://www.lattaplantation.org/history/jane.shtml

A place in history, as a historic home in North Carolina and a place that can be developed, or a family home with room to grow! Offered at $1, 195,000, this is a perfect candidate for an Alternative 2 option. Call me for this or any other home, at 704-351-1519… or here you might like to Search All Charlotte Homes

Safe to Buy in Charlotte? You Bet…

  1. KG

Would this property be good for a Bed & Breakfast? or maybe a conference/training facility?

  2. Terry

Yes - that is one thought that has been proposed– use the historic home as a conference center– and build suites in out buildings (cabins?)on the property. Its proximity to Charlotte, Lake Norman, and the Triad would make this a perfect retreat and conference center for groups up to 50 or so…
